In a press release of June 20, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) confirmed that the temporary introduction period for the use of legal entity identifiers (LEIs) will not be extended beyond July.

The six-month period was designed to allow for a smooth introduction of the revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II), despite not all firms succeeding in obtaining LEIs mandated by MiFID II from its effective date of January 3. ESMA announced the introduction period in December 2017 (further details can be found in the January 5 edition of the Corporate & Financial Weekly Digest).
